Gymkhana are seeking an Assistant Head Sommelier to join their wine team at their 2 Michelin starred restaurant, situated in Mayfair. The successful candidate will be personable, passionate and have exceptional wine knowledge. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Sommelier looking for an opportunity in an award winning, critically acclaimed group.
The Restaurant
Operating in Mayfair for over 10 years, Gymkhana is inspired by the bars, social, sports and members’ clubs of the British Raj in India and serves contemporary Indian cuisine using seasonal British ingredients with a strong focus on the tandoori oven. Opened in 2013, Gymkhana went on to win its first Michelin star, and in 2024 the second Michelin star becoming the first Indian restaurant in London to ever hold a pair. Restaurant Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year and BMW Square Meal Restaurant of the Year in 2014. “Gymkhana is the best restaurant I have ever been to.” Giles Coren, The Times.
This year, Gymkhana was awarded a second Michelin Star, having held one Michelin Star for the past ten years. In 2014, Gymkhana won Best Restaurant at the National Restaurant Awards and BMW Square Meal Restaurant of the Year.
The Position
As Assistant Head Sommelier, you will be responsible for delivering the highest levels of service and an exceptional guest experience within the restaurant and private dining rooms. You will recommend and sell wines to customers both to complement their tastes and to pair with their menu choices.
The successful Assistant Head Sommelier will have:
- An engaging and personable nature;
- A passion for hospitality and delivering an exceptional guest experience;
- Prior experience as a Sommelier within a quality restaurant;
- WSET or equivalent Sommelier qualification (preferred but not essential);
- A professional and confident communication style with fluent English language ability;
- Proven ability to lead, inspire and motivate a team;
- An excellent knowledge of food and beverage;
- The eagerness to continually learn and develop your career within hospitality.
