Wine waitress / Wine waiter – FOH

Lady of the Grapes is looking for 2 full-time Sommeliers – wine waitresses/wine waiters to join its wine lovers’ team.
The wine bar & restaurant is located in the heart of Covent Garden.

Lady of the Grapes is supporting and showcasing female winemakers as well as better viticulture.

We are serving good quality, seasonal ingredients, and classical and modern French cuisine alongside delicious natural, biodynamic and organic wines made by female winemakers. The wine list is an impressive collection of more than 350 different wines from the great vintages & producers, with tasting flights available.

We ensure our Sommeliers are invited to meet producers, attend tastings and have all the opportunities to develop and thrive in their Sommelier careers.

The successful candidate will have a great wine knowledge, will be a natural wine lover, be a foodie, have personality, energy and good communication skills.

We are looking for someone willing to accompany the business’ long-term development and keen to grow with the company.

Responsibilities

  • Wine List: Demonstrating exceptional knowledge of our wine list and giving the best recommendations to our guests
  • Customers service: Take food & wine orders, be sure they are satisfied. Build a rapport with our regular guests. Be sure the service standards are reached all the time.
  • Glassware: Ensure that all wine is served in proper glassware and in proper condition
  • Maintain familiarity with menu items: New wines (by glass or bottles), food menu changes.
  • Wine stock level: do stock-taking weekly with the team, check and organise fridges for service, cellar and shelves.
  • Communicate to the team any low and sold-out stock.
  • Cellar management: Keep the cellar tidy and organised, anticipate wine by the glass stock and rotation.
  • Help to select new wines to put by our glass selection.
  • Wine flight: Present wines to customers, with wine stories and wine description
  • Participate to the tastings with our suppliers our winemakers: select wines to add on our list with the rest of the team.
  • Be reliable and a team player

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience as a wine waitress/waiter, sommelier, wine advisor or in the wine industry
  • Be passionate about wine and food pairing
  • Be interested in organic, biodynamic and natural wines
  • Minimum WSET level 2 is required
  • Calm under pressure
  • Organised and tidy
  • Be able to smooth service when busy
  • Self-motivated with a positive “can do” attitude to all tasks
  • Have a good customer service skill
  • Knowledge and passion for French food, cheese and charcuterie is a plus
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Be punctual and reliable
