Bodegas y Viñedos Gancedo is a family winery located in Quilós (Cacabelos) in the region of El Bierzo. In addition to being winemakers, they are also winegrowers and currently own 600 plots and 100 hectares of vineyards.
Under the Bierzo Designation of Origin, their main objective is to produce high quality wines in a traditional way.
Previous generations were already dedicated to viticulture and wine production as a regular livelihood in the Bierzo region. Years later they continued with the Gancedo project with knowledge acquired by the professions of the owners of the winery, engineers by profession and experts in soil studies (terroirs). They decided to embark on the world of wine because of their great passion for viticulture and its interpretation, in addition to recovering their family’s original activity.

Our vineyards are distributed in more than 600 plots in the shape of a horseshoe from the incomparable setting in which our winery is located. Respect for the environment is a religion in the winery, and despite the difficulties, we have the largest area of organic vineyards in the northwest of Spain, with nearly 100 hectares of vineyards. Over the years the winery has acquired, recovered and reconverted vineyards. Always in search of the best locations on slopes, suitable orientations, altitude and granitic, limestone, sandy loam, quartzite soils…, which allow them to produce wines with their own identity.
After years of work focused on sustainability, quality and soil health, they have achieved CAECYL certification for organic farming.
These achievements represent the commitment to work in harmony with nature to grow the best raw material to make their wines, and at the same time, give back to the land more of what they have received each year.
In the elaboration of their wines they use representative grapes of the territory, Godello, Mencía and Malvasía. Currently the winery produces seven references, in white wines: Capricho Val de Paxariñas (Godello), Herencia del Capricho (Godello), in rosé: Capricho Val de Paxariñas Rosado (Mencía), in red wines: Gancedo (Mencía), Xestal (Mencía), Ucedo (Mencía) and in sweet wines: La Senda de la Higuera (Malvasía), in various presentations of 0.75 l and magnum of 1.5l.
