About Soalheiro
The story of Soalheiro began in 1974, when João António Cerdeira, with the help of his parents and his wife, Palmira Cerdeira, decided to take a risk and plant the first continuous Alvarinho vineyard in Melgaço. That plot, which gave the brand its name, was the starting point for a path filled with passion and pioneering spirit. In 1982, our winery was born and with it the first “Clássico” wine, which still today remains a symbol of our identity.
Our vineyards & Viticulture
Historically, Vinho Verde has always been densely populated because of the fertility of the land, resulting that the size of land per family would be very small. This distinctive characteristic is still true in our Territory in Monção and Melgaço, where the parcels of vineyards remain very small. These plots are therefore treated like gardens by the families that, other than grape-growing, have other professional occupations and take care of their vineyards at the end of the working day and on weekends. Our story is the story of one of these families that created lifelong partnerships with other families in the region —the story of one vineyard that is now a Territory.
