Davide Santeramo, Assistant Head Sommelier at The Ritz London explains his journey into wine and shares his top wine recommendations for 2025, including a Champagne, a nostalgic Primitivo and his fantastic alternative to white Burgundy<\/strong><\/h1>\n

I found my calling in the world of wine, where every bottle tells a story, and every sip unravels a tale of terroir, tradition, and craftsmanship. My journey into the art of wine began years ago, driven by a profound fascination with the intricate emotions that flavours, aromas, and textures of a sip of wine can offer, as well as the personalities and eccentricities of each winemaker. Here are a few of my favourite recommendations for you to enjoy in 2025.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Laurent Perrier, Grand Si\u00e8cle Iteration N26<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

“This Champagne, made out from three selected outstanding vintages: 2012, 2008, 2007, embraces and reveals all the expertise of the chief winemaker Michel Fauconnet and the vision of the estate where the best expression of Champagne is achieved through the art of blending. On the palate it has a creamy yet vibrant texture, with a finesse that lingers gracefully on the tongue.<\/p>\n

“Layers of flavour as golden apple and pear intertwined with hints of brioche and honey, culminating in a finish that is both long and refreshing. This is a champagne that marries richness and refinement in perfect harmony, leaving you eager for the next sip. Grand Si\u00e8cle No. 26\u2019s versatility makes it a brilliant partner to a variety of food and wine pairing. Whether it\u2019s the luxurious accompaniment to a plate of oysters, the delicate companion to a fillet of sole, or the crowning touch along a cheese selection.”<\/p>\n

Chardonnay from Tolpuddle Vineyard<\/a> in Tasmania<\/strong><\/h3>\n

“I recently discovered a fantastic alternative to a white Burgundy, which also happens to be great value for money. Chardonnay, made by Tolpuddle Vineyard in Tasmania which is showing a remarkable expression of what an outstanding wine is all about. On the nose shows an intense aroma of orchard fruit along a fresh lemon peel sensation with an intriguing smoky flinty character.<\/p>\n

“The palate opens with a harmonious blend of crisp apple, enriched by a deep nutty complexity, a subtle creamy texture, and a touch of rocky minerality lifted by a crystalline acidity that enhances the long finish of the wine. Whether you\u2019re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a quiet evening, this Chardonnay is sure to impress!”<\/p>\n

Primitivo \u201c 62 Anniversario\u201d San Marzano 2019<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n

“The last wine is taking me back to my home country, Italy. From the Salento, in Puglia, Primitivo \u201c 62 Anniversario\u201d San Marzano 2019 is an exquisite red wine showing an opulent warm and rich character with a bright acidity that deserves a spot on your Christmas table. Its ripe flavours of dark berry fruits, hints of spices and undertones of chocolate on the nose and a smooth rounded texture, with ripe and mellow tannins on the palate it pairs wonderfully with a variety of holiday dishes.<\/p>\n

“Its rich flavours and versatility make it the perfect companion for your festive feast.
