{"id":10401,"date":"2025-12-22T09:01:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-22T09:01:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sommelieredit.com\/?p=10401"},"modified":"2025-12-22T10:41:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T10:41:26","slug":"young-sommeliers-at-the-heart-of-masi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sommelieredit.com\/au\/young-sommeliers-at-the-heart-of-masi\/","title":{"rendered":"Young Sommeliers at the Heart of Masi"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>In the rolling hills of Valpolicella, where ancient winemaking traditions meet a modern, global audience, Masi Agricola stands as one of Italy\u2019s most influential interpreters of terroir.\u00a0 Two talented sommeliers won the chance to visit the winery thanks to their innvovative food and wine pairing skills in the 2025 Masi Future Sommelier competition.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10479 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/sommelieredit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/MASI_vineyards.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"653\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sommelieredit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/MASI_vineyards.jpg 960w, https:\/\/sommelieredit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/MASI_vineyards-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sommelieredit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/MASI_vineyards-768x522.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to Export Manager Giacomo Boscaini, the true custodians of Masi\u2019s future aren\u2019t found only in the vineyards or the cellars, they\u2019re standing table-side, corkscrew in hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung sommeliers are extremely important for Masi,\u201d Boscaini explains, \u201cbecause they represent both the present and the future of how wine is interpreted, communicated and shared with consumers.\u201d For him, the sommelier is not merely a technician but a cultural conduit, \u201cthe step in between producer, place of origin and guests at the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a philosophy deeply woven into Masi\u2019s identity. \u201cWine lives its best expression in hospitality,\u201d he continues. \u201cRestaurants are where our wines stop being products and become experiences.\u201d And it is the sommelier who animates that transformation, giving context, story, and emotion to every pour.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A Dialogue Between Generations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For Thomas Walker, sommelier at <em>The Vineyard<\/em>, the exchange is reciprocal. \u201cEngaging with young sommeliers allows us to share ideas, understand evolving dining cultures and ensure that our wines remain relevant in contemporary gastronomy,\u201d he says. \u201cThese people can be inspirational for us, as we hope our wines can be for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walker\u2019s recent visit to Masi offered a vivid illustration of that connection. Hosted by Boscaini himself, he describes the experience as \u201cexceptional\u201d, a masterclass in heritage, hospitality, and the art of pairing.<\/p>\n<p>Two wines left a particular imprint. The Costasera Riserva, served alongside <em>Tortelli di carne all\u2019Amarone<\/em>, showcased the deep culinary roots of the Veneto. \u201cThe beef filling finished with Amarone was extraordinary,\u201d he recalls. Each grape had a unique flavour and its own role to play in the blends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As someone steeped in the study of regional regulations and stylistic frameworks, Bagnall found the insider perspective on Valpolicella\u2019s evolving landscape particularly compelling. \u201cHearing Giacomo\u2019s thoughts on the current discussions surrounding the region was fascinating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her standout wine of the trip was the 2017 Osar, a rare 100% Oseleta bottling. \u201cI\u2019d never tried Oseleta as a single variety before. It was everything I love &#8211; bold fruit, spice, grippy tannins, and still showing great aging potential.\u201d She also gives an honourable nod to the Masi Moxx\u00e9 Del Re Pinot Nero, a sparkling wine she believes \u201ccould tempt even the most devout champagne drinker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the moment that lingered longest was culinary. \u201cAs part of my competition entry, I spoke about how food and wine create core experiences for me.
